Shattering the Ant Hill

Rico was returning to the lab when he nearly collided with an irate older man storming out the doors. The lab tech quickly sidestepped to let the stranger through, but the grumbling menace abruptly stopped and turned.

Time solidified as Rico blinked wide-eyed at this sudden departure from his quiet sterile world. In the labs, animosity was displayed through subtle manoeuvres, as the scientists manipulated each other for their own ambitions. This, however, was a terrifyingly immediate and physical threat.

He’s a soldier, Rico realized as he felt himself pale. And he’s furious. But, why is he swearing at me?
